Field Hockey Sticks It Out Vs Newport

The girls’ varsity and jv field hockey teams battled it out with the Newport Sailors on Tuesday, September 27. Fountain Valley was sadly defeated with a score of 3-6.

The varsity played in the first hour, and their game was fast and furious. In the first half, our lady Barons scored twice and those on the sidelines were clapping and cheering. Unfortunately, the Sailors came back and attacked varsity goalie Alex Capuano (’12). Throughout the game, Newport scored 6 times and Fountain Valley managed to score once more, but the hour was soon over.

The jv game was next, and the crowds were still high on the anticipation of a Barons’ win. The original jv goalie, Ryann Callaghan (’15), had injured her ankle the week before league play started, and was replaced by a field player. Yet, jv believed they could win it. Throughout the hour, Newport and Fountain Valley played on, and there were a few close shaves, but in the end, the score tied down to 0-0.

Great job ladies, and better luck on Friday against Edison!
