Anyone in the mood for crepes? I’ve got a great place for you to check out. I was finally able to go down to Long Beach to try out the food at this restaurant, La Creperie Café. This café has a nice, trendy atmosphere; it practically screams Mardi gras. They serve food perfect for lunch or dinner, maybe even brunch.
I had the opportunity to try out a few of their popular dishes like their garlic fries, Calamari, Jambalaya Crepe, and the Romeo and Juliet. I was told that their garlic fries were a must have and I have to agree that they were pretty darn good. These potato delights were sprinkled with garlic and cilantro and had the ideal potato-crispy ratio. They were presented simply in a parchment paper cone with three different sauces; ketchup, chipotle aioli and ranch dressing. The Calamari was also cooked nicely, but it wasn’t different from what you could get anywhere else.
After finishing off those appetizers, the Jambalaya Crepe did not keep us waiting. It was the highlight of the entire meal. It was everything a savory crepe should be. Made up of Andouille sausage, caramelized onions, tomatoes, jumbo shrimp, chicken breast, and mozzarella cheese in a spicy Louisiana sauce, how could it not be delicious? The crepe that bundled all of these beautiful ingredients together was just the right thickness to compliment the dish. But, what made the crepe unforgettable was that amazing spicy Louisiana sauce that was pooled around the package of Jambalaya goodness. It made me wonder what other awesome savory crepes La Creperie Café offered.
My meal ended with a sweet crepe for dessert. The Romeo and Juliet was made up of Nutella, strawberries, and bananas with French vanilla ice cream and whip cream on the side. I’m sorry to say that it disappointed me a little bit. The crepe was too thick for a dessert and it was wrapped twice. There was too much Nutella which took over all the other ingredients. Maybe the other sweet crepes tasted better.
I give La Creperie Café 3 out of 5 stars. Check out their mouth watering crepes and Mardi gras ambiance. Pleasant eating!
