The Bell Game. As a junior at Fountain Valley High School, this will be my third year experiencing the excitement and enthusiasm of FVHS students towards the Bell Game. Yet, we have not actually won the Bell. The Bell Game has become a joke among many FVHS students because we have not one in more than four years. Some people have just lost hope. What is the point of all the decorations and excitement? Is it worth going through all the trouble when we might not even win?
Dress-up days are arranged, the best being Edison Nerd Day. Then, we have the Bell Game Assembly. And of course, it is always wonderful to come to school and find the whole school covered head-to-toe in posters.
Therefore, there is obviously some support; otherwise we wouldn’t have sold-out tickets every single year. People still continue to cheer our football team on.
In a way, you could say that the posters get students into the spirit of the game. This spirit is the enthusiasm shown in FVHS students. In addition, even if a person does not understand football, they will still go to the Bell Game just because there is so much enthusiasm and spirit about our school. Students feel connected. We all have one common interest: To support our school and (hopefully) win.
But some say that all of the Bell Week posters are ridiculous and a waste of paper especially because we won’t win, according to them.
Even so, there are many things that people should realize. The first is it doesn’t matter whether you are a senior or a freshman; the feeling of excitement affects everyone. The entire week before the game, everyone is getting ready by buying tickets and arranging rides to the game and planning on how to support the team. Secondly, Fountain Valley High School students are special because they can witness this event. Most schools do not have this opportunity to connect with their school.
In all, the Bell Game is an event to look forward to and even if we do not win, we can be satisfied knowing that we have so much support from our school, administration, and student body.
