Attention 9th, 10th & 11th graders! Golden West College is hosting the Chicano Latino College Day on December 2, 2011 from 8:00-2:30. During this event, you will have the opportunity to visit Golden West College and participate in informational workshops. If you would like to attend this field trip please see Mrs.Wong in the Administration building. The last day to sign up is tomorrow, November 29.

Need elective credits? ROP may be the answer. Registration for Spring 2012 ROP classes is happening now. Explore a Career through ROP and earn 5 or 10 elective credits. Many classes include internships at local hotels, business and hospitals. Take the next step to a fulfilling future, register for an ROP class. Registration will be immediately after return from winter break. Please see Ms. Sanders in the Career Center to registration.

Attention Barons! ASB will be hosting an ice-skating event on Friday, December 16th at Westminster Ice. Spend your first night of Winter Break with all your friends and family. The event is from 7 – 9 PM and pre-sale tickets are available for $8 from any ASB member. They are $10 at the door and everyone is welcome. Bundle up Barons, and see you there!

Reminder – if you want ASB to make you a poster, all requests must be submitted three days in advance. Posters are $5.00, Banners cost more depending on size.

CLUB ANNOUNCEMENTS:

The Career Exploration Society will be hosting FVHS own renown school Psychologist Ms Cynthia Olaya as our guest speaker this Thursday, December 1st at lunch in the Career Center. If you have every considered a career as a Psychologist this is your opportunity to get personal insight into that field. Everyone is welcome!

Well… our Marching Band continues their high standards in performance winning Sweepstakes Wednesday Night in their last competition of the season. Led by Drum Majors, Jack Seigman, Zack Jones, & Anthony Ho, the Regiment also took Sweepstakes in Percussion, Best Showmanship, and Best Marching. Our awesome Color Guard took a very strong 1st place. FV beat the power of Trabuco Hills HS, Savanna HS and 14 other schools. Tomorrow night, the Regiment will perform a special Encore Performance at HBHS at 9:15pm after being invited to show off their high skills for a local Championship. Congratulations for a great season!

After the Winter Break, our Color Guard will be forming a special NEW Color Guard to have fun learning and performing in a few local shows… Listen for sign ups for this new after school team with NO Cost to participate during the Spring.

There will be a brief meeting for all “Almost, Maine” cast and crew today at lunch in room 135. Please see Mr. Zick

This Friday, the week before we gather with friends and family to give thanks for all that we’re appreciative of, let us also think about all that we have to be grateful for here at Fountain Valley High School…

Let’s see… there’s our teachers and friends, our sports and arts programs, our parents, our Baron Pride, and Richard Lee, Courtney McClane, Laney Ehlers, Tiffany Phan, and Denney Huynh — all of whom turned in an iPhone last week and are proud of the fact that on the Friday before Thanksgiving they were CAUGHT… BEING GOOD!

Just so you know Barons, there’s been over 50 iPhones returned since the start of the “Caught Being Good Program” back in September. Way to go!!! This Thanksgiving, we are grateful for Richard, Courtney, Laney, Tiffany, Denney and everyone else in our community that’s chosen to do the right thing, and been CAUGHT… BEING GOOD!

Mr. G-O has Google Geniuses ready to help you from starting a gmail account, creating and sharing Google Documents, to creating your own portfolio blog or website for colleges and employers to see. That’s today and every Thursday in room 508.

Congratulations to our Girls Golfer, Lilia Vu, OC Varsity Athlete of the Week. Lilia is one of 9 individuals to qualify for the State Finals tomorrow. Good Luck Lilia!

Congratulations to the Boys Cross Country team for qualifying to run at the CIF Championships. The boys team defeated state ranked Warren High School to move on to the championships at Mt Sat next week. The top five runners for the Barons were Jay Bonthius, Alex Sakamoto, Eric Mendoza, Max Chern, and Jordan Millington. Great job guys!!!!

Congratulations to our Marching Band for an awesome performance at the State Championships on Saturday. FV placed in the Top Eight and the Individual Performer Music Judge scored FV very high. On Wednesday of this week our Marching Band will compete at WHS in a night tournament. FV competes at 8:45pm at WHS. This is the FV Game of the Week… Barons, come out and cheer for our Marching Band at their last competition,

Congratulations to freshman Lilia Vu for finishing in 1st place at the CIF individual golf championships. Lilia shot a 2 under par 70 to capture our first individual championship in golf in over 10 years. Way to go Lilia!

Hey Barons…Let’s do Lunch on the Lawn tomorrow! We will be recognizing our Athletes who are signing their Letter of Intents, wishing Good Luck to our CIF participants, honoring a CIF Champion and holding a Spoil the Oiler Football lunchtime activity! Also, making a special appearance will be FV’s own T-Shirt Canon! There are great things happening at this school! Bring your yellow towels and let’s keep the spirit rolling here at FVHS and support our Football at the game tomorrow night at HB. Nothing like being the HOME team in what they think is “THEIR” stadium. Kickoff is at 7:00! Don’t forget to wear your B4L gear tomorrow! Build the culture! Go Barons!

There will be an informational meeting in room 138 at lunch today. All returning players and any students who want to compete on the boys’ golf team should go to room 138 at the beginning of lunch today to get information about tryout dates.

Boy’s Volleyball tryouts will be held Tuesday, November 15th and Wednesday, Nov. 16 from 4-6pm in the gym.

Remember the Ring Man will be on Campus Today during Lunch by the Cafeteria for Class Ring Orders & Delivery.

SENIORS, this is the last push for College Applications! If you need help with your UC Application please join Revolution Prep and Michaela Wakeman from the FVHS Career Center on Monday, Nov 14th in the Library/Media Center. You must bring your transcripts, yours essay on a flashdrive, a credit card and submit your UC Application! We will answer all questions and concerns regarding the UC Application process. We will be holding 2 sessions: the first from 2:00-3:30 and again from 3:30-5:00pm. Hope we see you there! (end Nov. 14th)

More College Application support! Seniors if you are applying to any Cal State School we are holding a Cal State Application Workshop on Wednesday, Nov 16th in the Library/Media Center. Ms. Evelyn Daliwan, an Admission Officer from Cal St Long Beach and Michaela Wakeman from the FVHS Career Center will be on hand to answer all your questions regarding the Cal State Application process. Please go to CSUMentor to create your account then come to our Application Workshop to complete the process. You will need a copy of your transcript, a credit card and then you can submit your application! Our first session is from 2:00-3:30 and then we will repeat from 3:30-5:00pm. (end Nov. 16th)

The Miss Fountain Valley Scholarship Pageant is back after 20 years! All girls ages 17 to 24 can compete. Education Scholarships of up to $10,000.00 will be awarded. If you are crowned Miss Fountain Valley you will then go on to represent the city at the Miss California Pageant. Application deadline is November 18, more information is available in the Activities Office.

CLUB ANNOUNCEMENTS:

Attention all MSA members, don’t forget that tomorrow is the last day to turn in t-shirt money. Get it in, in room 301.

Attention freshmen, there is a freshman commission meeting today at lunch in Mrs. Bunten’s room – 235. All freshmen are welcome.

FHA Members, there is a mandatory meeting today at lunch for those members wanting to compete in the upcoming CRE’s. Also being discussed will be our service project. The meeting is in Room 243 at lunch.

TOMS Club will be hosting a car was this Saturday, November 12th at the 7-11 on Magnolia & Edinger from 10:00am-3:00pm. Please come out and support the club’s efforts to raise money to help provide perhaps their first pair of shoes for impoverished children. Cost per car will be $5.00.

Thank you to everyone for a Great Edison Week…. Football, Pep Squad, Band, ASB and all our staff and students! Wasn’t that fun! Your presence was a big reason for the intense level of play by our football team. Let’s continue that support this week, Come on FV, let’s be the 12th man again this week and support our team at our last league game against the Oilers! This week the game is on Thursday night at Huntington Beach High School. It is our HOME game, so all you SB or ASB card holders just show your ID at the gate and get in free. Come on BARONS, let’s support our football team and SPOILER THE OILER!!!

Hey Barons… How many of you like “C’s”? Not that many, right? But what about “B’s?” Or even “G’s?” Going to school in a community like ours, it’s very common to develop a disorder called Letter Bias, in which particular letters are held in extremely low regard.

But not for Junior, Eric Nguyen. Last Friday, he and a group of friends demonstrated their own Letter Bias, when in the afternoon they spent over an hour with the letters C, B, and G… as they were CAUGHT… BEING GOOD!

Juniors Eric Nguyen, Aseel Yerunker, Toan Nguyen, and Sophomore Lindsey Danley gave up over an hour of their Friday afternoon last week as they helped set-up and prepare classrooms in the English Hall for the SAT Exam. Not only did they cover up posters, and move desks… they worked as a team to ensure a safe and secure testing environment for over 500 college-bound Seniors.

Thanks guys… Your lack of Letter Bias just earned you a 2 credit detention write-off, as you were CBG’d… or CAUGHT… BEING GOOD!
