When Jacob (Anton Yelchin) meets Anna (Feliticity Jones), they fall head over heels in love but it’s never as simple as that. As a tourist visiting America from the United Kingdom, Anna violates her student visa and cannot return to Jacob in the States. Over a period of time they struggle to stay in touch and maintain their love for each other, but obstacles stand in their way.
Like Crazy steps out of the boundaries that a romantic movie would normally have. There are no sappy lines or overdramatic plots – just two people in love who cannot be together. Yelchin and Jones fit perfectly into their respective roles, and every one of their triumphs and losses is felt in the heart of every viewer. You will root for Jacob and Anna to be together, to discover happiness, even if it is with other people. While apart, Jacob begins a relationship with his assistant Samantha (Jennifer Lawrence), and Anna dates her neighbor (Charlie Bewley).
The movie had no official script. The actors had to improvise and ad-lib and the natural, believable dialogue kept the movie fresh and unpredictable. The soundtrack consisted largely of gloomy, melodious piano music that only contributed to the tear-jerking challenges Jacob and Anna had to go through to be with each other. Every scene was a stab to my heart, but I could not stop watching.
Be prepared with tissues – but much like Jacob and Anna’s tumultuous, unadulterated love for each other, it’s all worth it in the end.
