ASB Recruiting for 2012-2013

As the second semester is taking off, ASB is ahead of the game, thinking of the next school year – what new events, assemblies, and ideas could work, and of course the 2012-2013 ASB that would organize and run them.

After school on Tuesday, February 21, 2012, and Wednesday, February 22, 2012, ASB hosted friendly informational meetings about the inner workings and mechanics of the FVHS ASB in the cafeteria. Our normal lunch tables were lined with information about the executive and administrative positions, and students could mill around and find out about the commissions and positions and what their duties were within ASB.

ASB is split into two main categories – executive and administrative. Applying for an executive position is a lengthier process where the candidates must campaign, prepare and deliver a speech and then are voted into office by fellow students. Individual positions (president, vice president, treasurer, activities commission, secretary, parliamentarian and treasurer) are then chosen amongst the voted seven.

On the other hand, administrative commission members need only to go through an interview conducted by the seven executive ASB members. Administrative ASB is then further split into commissions: dance, spirit, publicity, assemblies, athletics, clubs, media and historian. Each commission and position than have individual jobs to complete during dances, events, assemblies, etc. as indicated by their names.

On Wednesday alone, at least thirty Barons must have showed up with genuine interest in leading FVHS. The session went well, and students could go to whichever table interested them.

At each table, a poster displayed the duties of that commission. Fliers were handed out and ASB members were on hand to give mini presentations and answer any questions relating to ASB and their jobs.

Overall, the prospect that these fellow students could possibly be our future student body leaders holds well.
