Congratulations to our wrestlers who competed this weekend in the Grade State Championships. Over 1500 Wrestlers from around the state competed to be the best at their own grade level. Placers were: Amador Rodriguez – 8th place, Steele Escobedo – 3rd, Stone Escobedo – 3rd, and Drew Morgan – 2nd place! It was a great weekend and we are very proud of the 21 wrestlers who worked the past couple weeks to compete in one of the toughest tournaments in the country!
Yesterday, the varsity members of the FVHS Pep Squad participated in the Best of the West competition at Cal State Long Beach where they competed against the best high schools on the west coast. Our cheerleaders came home with a 5th place trophy and our songleaders swept their division with a FIRST PLACE! Congratulations ladies… way to finish out the season.

Congratulations Boys Tennis for beating Yorba Linda. Varsity won 15-3. Winston Ngo was on a roll. He won all of 3 matches without losing any games (6-0,6-0,6-0). Kevin Tu & Jonathan Lieu lost only 1 game in 3 matches. Also Kyle Ho & Johnny Luu and Darrin Nguyen and Sam Cummings won all of their matches. Junior Varsity won 18-0. Parker Braverman, Johnny Bui, Erik Ho won all their singles matches, Nick & Harrison Nguyen, Austin Beck & Quantin Pham, Robert Ichiyama & Raymond Diep won all their doubles matches. This is a Huuugeee performance from Barons Tennis!

Congratulations to the Varsity Girls Softball team for winning the Cypress Tournament. The girls beat La Mirada in the finals buy a score of 20. Emily Brucelas, Kelly Tatum and Brenda Bott made the all tournament team and Carissa Rivera was the tournament MVP. The girls are off to a great start and looking to continue with a strong season. Good luck in the Laughlin Tournament of Champions and on your season. Go Barons!
Congratulations to Boys Varsity Tennis on their victory over LaQuinta 13-5. Winston Ngo and Brandon Nguyen won all 3 singles matches and Jonathan Lieu and Kevin Tu won all of their doubles. Frosh/Soph beat JSerra and LaQuinta this week. They won a very close match and fought it out to the end to remain undefeated. Great job Tennis!
The Boys’ Golf Team won the JSerra Invitational Golf Tournament by one stroke on Monday. The team was led by sophomores Jeff Gathman and Jordan Meas and Junior Andre Vu. Way to go Barons!
Congratulations to the Track Team for defeating Long Beach Wilson. The boys’ score was 104 – 11 and the girls’ score was 71 – 31. The boys team is currently ranked 6th in Orange County. Next up for the Baron track team is the Irvine Invitational on Saturday at Irvine HS.

The majority of our students will test in either the cafeteria or Gymnasium, determined by an alpha format. OK, Juniors… Registration for Fountain Valley’s FREE SAT PREP Class closes today, and we expect to see all 250 of you in the cafeteria this Saturday @ 9am sharp. Please remember to purchase the College Board’s Big, Blue SAT book if you can, and bring it to class this weekend. This book contains all of the practice problems we will be using, and will also help as a study tool in the days leading up to the May SAT. It’s only $12 at any major bookstore; but if you can’t get one in time, paper copies will be provided for you. It’s time to start thinking about college, Juniors! See you Saturday @ 9:00!

The following members placed in the top 10 in their competitions: Business Calculations – Adrien Ha: 10th, Thomas Warloe: 6th; Business Law – Kent Nguyen: 3rd; Technology Concepts – Thomas Warloe: 4th; Public Speaking II – Debbie Chen: 6th; Global Business – Jayne Yokoyama, Diana Pham-Tran and Alex Le: 6th; Management and Decision Making – Adrien Ha, Sheshanna Phan and Emily Lam: 6th;

That leaves approximately 50 spots for the rest of the Junior Class in order to prepare for the May 5th SAT Exam here at Fountain Valley High School. Remember, the class is free, and it is strongly suggested that you pick up the College Board’s big, blue SAT book online, or from any major bookstore before class begins. So… tear off the bottom of that SAT flyer Mr. Arnold passed out in your English class, and return it to Ms. Wakeman in the College & Career Center by this Wednesday, March 7th. And hurry, because space is filling up fast!

John Lieu & Kevin Tu, Darrin Nguyen & Sam Cummings, Kyle Ho & Johnny Luu won all their doubles matches which gave the team a 9-0 lead. Frosh/Soph boys won 10-8, Bill Bui & Brian Bui won all their doubles matches. Boys Tennis also beat Westminster yesterday, Varsity won 14-4 and JV won 17 to 1. Go Barons!
Congratulations to Boys Volleyball, all levels beat Ocean View. Frosh/Soph and JV both won 2 games to 0. Varsity won 3 to 2. Tyler Pennella led the way with 12 kills and Scott Cronick had 10 kills. Great job Barons.

Any student wishing to participate in the Vans shoe contest must submit a clean drawing of your idea to Mr. Eich in room 308 by March 12. Top four students will be given the honor of embellishing one of four pairs of shoes. Stop by room 308 for more information. The four themes are Art, Music, Action sports, and Local flavor. Ideas are not limited to painting can be a three dimensional creation.
The district Art “Creative Visions” will open on March 23 and run through April 4. The show held at our district offices represents the finest works from all 7 of our schools, in drawing, painting, graphics, photography, ceramics, sculptures and animation. Please join use for the opening Gala on Friday March 23 at 5pm, you’ll will truly be amazed.
