New sensational duo turns rock into the harmonious sound of the classical greats.
Have you ever listened to classical music and found yourself dozing off in boredom? Or, maybe you actually enjoy the sound of classical music! There is the chance you may despise mainstream music or get tired of hearing it played on KROQ every other day. Most of all, your probably looking for something new and different in music that’s still appealing.
2Cellos as they are called (Yes the band is solely comprised of 2 cellist), is the kind of group that gives music a fresh breath of air. So far all of their music has been comprised of cover songs ranging from Coldplay and Micheal Jackson to Nirvana and Gun’s & Roses.
Their soothing cellos accomplish beautiful and harmonic melodies as well as fast paced hard rock. It’s surprising and amazing what the duo is able to accomplish without any other instrumental accompaniment.
In what is becoming a classic sensation, YouTube unknowns becomes world famous musicians travelling on tour with superstars (Elton John), making cameos on TV (GLEE), and selling out concerts (all across Europe).
The two musicians Luka Šulić and Stjepan Hauser are from Slovakia and Croatia respectively. Their careers until very recently have been centered around classical music and they were frequently competing against one another.
In 2011 the two young cellist came together for what they call their “project” and put together an adaption of Smooth Criminal on YouTube and their career has taken off since.
The duo has only released one album so far into their young career, the self-titled 2CELLOS, released in July. Every song adapted contains the same energy and mood of its original counterpart. The cello adds a certain harmony to the sound that can be lost between percussion, guitars and vocals. The duo is able to capture the essence of each song.
Classical adaptions to contemporary music is not rare; the Vitamin String Quartet have been doing it for years, but 2CELLOS inject a certain twist that even Elton John couldn’t resist.
The 2CELLOS have not announced any new albums, although they have released a small live cover, and a couple singles. They are currently touring the world with Elton John, and on their own as well. YouTube searching will reveal most of their songs, although the album is well worth buying.
The music of the Šulić and Hauser will add variety to a music library and certainly surprise and impress friends with an enduring sound that won’t tire the ear or the heart.
