In The Thing, a dual research team has discovered a spaceship in the most inhospitable of places, Antarctica. An egotistical head of research scientist puts the research above the safety of the entire team and everything takes a turn for the worst.
After seeing just the preview, the plot was typical. There was no shock value. However, the film was average as it recaptured the theme of the 1982 version by John Carpenter. The only problem is that it won’t be remembered quite as well.
The movie stayed true to the original with little to no major changes. There were the same cheesy animations from the 82′ film, which is disappointing considering what they had at their disposal. The music, however, was original and unnerving. It set the right mood for Antarctica and the whole “middle of nowhere” setting.
In conclusion, the film was mediocre. The Thing was no E.T., that’s for sure.
