Whether through appointment or elections, some of the biggest clubs on campus have already decided on their board for the next school year.
Make-A-Wish has announced that Paulina Tran and Karen Phan will act as co-presidents and Ethlyn Hong will fulfill the role of vice-president. Key Club, whose board consists of 14 members, will be headed by Jessica Le, while Phelan Phan will take charge of KIWIN’s.
Many clubs have not yet announced their officers for the 2012-2013 school year. Some clubs, like Operation Smile and FBLA, are only just collecting applications at the end of May and will determine board positions in June. On the other hand, CSF, although having already determined the future board members but have decided to announce the results at its annual end of the year banquet.
The process of selecting officers can take anywhere from one to five weeks, or even more, depending on the complexity of the club’s process. Regardless of the complexity, the importance of board selection to each club is reflected by the fact that each club must inform ASB of the new board when re-applying to be an official school club.
Says future KIWIN’s vice-president Lotus Thai, “I think club elections are very critical to the clubs. Club elections need to be held so members of the club can pick whoever they think will continue the club onto greatness. Club elections help build the foundation for future purposes.”
