Congratulations to our 150 member Marching Band for placing so strongly in Glendora
Saturday at Bands of America. 19 of the best bands in Arizona, Nevada, New Mexico, and
California competed. FV made finals and ended up 7th at this National Tournament. This
Saturday you can see the Regiment at Huntington Beach HS at 5pm or at Irvine HS at10:30pm
as they perform at TWO Tournaments in one day.. Good Luck FVRR… You are ON FIRE !!!
Congratulations to golfers Sally Kim and Lilia Vu for advancing to the CIF final on November
1st. Sally shot a 78 and Lilia shot a 73. Way to go girls, and good luck.
Congratulations to Boys Water polo for defeating Villa Park and Corona Del Mar High School
at the Grey Lundy Tournament last weekend! Come out to watch the varsity boys crush the
Edison Chargers this Wednesday at 5 pm at Newport Harbor High School. Aqua Jocks Rock!

This past weekend our girls & boys cross country team participated in the Sunset Legue Finals
at Central Park. The lady Barons finished second in league taking out rival Edison High
School while running a team time of 93:20 which was the fastest in the last five years. The
Barons were led by Amber Bragdon, Amanda Stark, Stephanie Fedele, Aini Morales, Summer
Ordaz, Mariana Chavez, and Valerie Stark. Fountain Valley competes in CIF in two weeks at
Mt Sac College. The JV girls also finished second in league led by impressive performances
from Phoung Mai, Natalie Grohman, and Laura Resendez.
The boys cross country team did a repeat of last year with Varsity, JV and Frosh/Soph all
Placing first and are the 2012 Sunset League Champions. For the Varsity Hunter Gulino, Max
Chern, Thomas Duckson and Galyn Nash all placed in the top 10. David Abraham, Will Kokal
and Sam Arciniaga also had great races for the varsity team and finished in the top 20. For
the second year in a row Fountain Valley had the top runner in the JV race, Tanner
Kinderman led the JV squad with his first place finish. Joseph Martinez placed first in the
Frosh/Soph race. Next up for the Varsity team is CIF Southern Section Prelims on November
10th at Mt. Sac College.
Attention all Boys interested in playing for the Boys golf team. There is a mandatory
informational meeting this Friday at lunch in Coach Keyser’s room, room 107.
Attention Frosh Football Players, we will be having an All Player meeting in room 408 at lunch
today.
Heyyy Barons! This week is Red Ribbon Week. Red Ribbon Week celebrates youth teens
today to embrace a drug-free life and to be a positive force in our community. Dress up days
are tomorrow, Halloween Costumes, Crazy Socks Thursday, and Drug-Free Friday [wear red
and white!] so don’t miss out!

Reverse Modified Bell schedule. Once again we have the highest API school score in the

Congratulations to the boys Varsity and Frosh/Soph water polo teams for their stellar performances at tournaments over the past 2 weeks. Frosh/Soph had an incredible comeback in their last game which placed them 3rd out of 16 schools at the J Serra High School tournament and Varsity took 3rd out of 12 schools at the Newport Rib Co. Tournament. Big props to Varsity player, Dalton Kenefick, who was awarded with the El Dorado All – Tournament Team Award!! Come out to see the Baron boys play Edison next week on Wednesday October 31st at Newport Harbor High School… Aqua Jocks Rock!

Last Saturday the Lady Baron cross country team competed at the Mt Sac Invitational. Both varsity and JV teams finished 3rd in their divisions. The Barons were led by Amanda Stark and Stephanie Fedele who both ran 18:34. Amber Bragdon had a strong showing at 18:40, and Phoung Mai ran a huge personal best of 19:59 in the JV race. The Barons are ranked top ten in Orange County and top ten in CIF Division 1. This Saturday at Central Park in Huntington Beach at 9:00am, the girls team will look to continue their winning streak and earn a Sunset League Championship.

The Surf Team battled it out with Marina on Tuesday for their 3rd competition of the year. It was a close match-up and Marina squeaked ahead in the end. We had some great surfing by the team and would like to congratulate the following students for their efforts: 1st place finishes – Johnny Richardson, Nathan Young and John Hoyt; 2nd place finishes – Aly Johns, Kyle Knoke, Colleen Millican and Richie Lopez; 3rd place finishes Eric Tello, Colleen Millican, Maddy Johnson, Caden Bruner and Neal Hall.
The NHL may be locked out but you can still watch great hockey! Come support your Baron hockey team Thursday night at 7:40pm in Huntington Beach at The Rinks!

Saturday at a major Tournament against 22 other bands. Congratulations to our outstanding
leaders and members for their hard work that is paying off.
The FVRR marching band is still Undefeated with our Sunset League Schools for the past 30
years. Next week the FVRR competes at a National Tournament with schools from Utah,
Nevada & CA.
Congratulations Girls Field Hockey on another win beating Westminster 1-0. Goal was scored by Mikendra Macy and assisted by Cara Troutman. Good job defense with another shut out!
The Boys Cross Country team participated in the Mt. Sac Invitational this past weekend. The weather was perfect for running and all of our teams did exceptional. The Sophmore team placed the highest finishing 3rd in their race. The team performed outstanding on all levels. Hunter Gulino, Thomas Duckson, Sam Arcinaiga, Tanner Kinderman, Joseph Martinez, Kenneth Barrios, Noah Carr and William Hua all finished in the top 20 of their races. This Saturday is League Finals at Central Park where the boys team will look to Repeat the Sweep.

There is an important change in the schedule. This Wednesday October 17th will be a special modified day for all students who are NOT taking the PSAT. First period will start at 9:30 on Wednesday and all classes will be 42 minutes in length. 0 period will meet at the regular time. Those taking the PSAT on Wednesday need to check in at 7:30am. Again – FVHS is running a special modified day on Wednesday Oct. 17th. Go Barons!
Congratulation to the Girls Cross Country team for their outstanding performance at the Orange County Championships. For the second time this season, the girls beat every team in the Sunset League. The Barons ran a team time of 92:26 finishing the season ranked 8th in the County. The Barons were lead by Amber Bragdon who ran 17:55, and Amanda Stark’s season best time of 18:03. The other varsity contributors were Stephanie Fedele, Mariana Chavez, Summer Ordaz, Aini Morales, and Valerie Stark.
Boys Cross Country participated in the Orange County Championships at Irvine Regional Park this past weekend. The Varsity team continued their weekly improvement to finish 7th out of the over 70 teams competing and in the process out performed all other teams from the Sunset League. Hunter Gulino finished as the 7th fastest Junior and Gaylin Nash was the 12th fastest Sophomore. Top performers in other races were Sam Arciniaga, Joseph Martinez and Noah Carr.

Our students have once again proved to be a caring community. Several of FVHS students have been CAUGHT….Being Good! Colton Roberts turned in a wallet he found with $50. in it. Megan Ishihara found a Kindle. Abraham Ramos found a cell phone and contacted the owner and Aldo Orea turned in a textbook he found on campus. Be sure to congratulate these students if you see them on campus. They went out of their way to help someone they don’t know and were…CAUGHT…BEING GOOD!

Congratulations to our Marching Band at their first tournament of the year. Our Royal Regiment, lead by Drum Major Anthony Ho, placed a strong 2nd against 15 other bands. The Regiment also won two special awards, 1st place went to our awesome Color Guard beating out another of the State’s best guards and Sweepstakes went to our Percussion receiving the highest score of the night! Barons, don’t miss seeing this years show called “Fire” at the next home game or tournament.
Boys Cross Country competed in the 31st Central Park Invitational this past weekend. 73 schools and 2300 athletes participated in the annual event hosted by Fountain Valley. The 9th ranked boys varsity team posted the fastest team time of Orange County schools and finished 4th in the Division I Varsity race. Outstanding performances by Hunter Gulino and Thomas Duckson placed them both in the top 20. Max Chern, David Abraham and Galyn Nash also contributed in the overall team scoring.
Reminder ALL Girls interested in Girls Water Polo! There will be a Girls Water Polo Presentation/Demonstration today at 3pm on the POOL Deck. It doesn’t matter if you are an experienced swimmer or someone who hasn’t ever played Water Polo before…come out & see our current Girls Water Polo players amaze and excite you with their amazing water polo skills!

The District-wide College Night is tomorrow night, Tuesday, Oct. 9th at Ocean View HS. Over 200 colleges will be represented. All of the UC and Cal State campus reps will attend along with the Military and Out of State Colleges. This is a great night to talk to the reps, get their email address and make contacts. We also offer break out sessions for NCAA, Financial Aid and SAT vs ACT. This is a great night to gather tons of college information. Some teachers may give you extra credit for attending! Remember that’s tomorrow night at OVHS!

HOMECOMING WEEK is here! Homecoming Tickets are on sale Monday through Thursday Barons! Prices are $50 with ASB & Super Baron and $55 with out. Dance contracts are available in the Supervision office and online if you would like to bring a guest who doesn’t attend Fountain Valley High School. All guest contracts must be turned in to the Supervision window no later than 3pm tomorrow, October 9th. You must have all detentions, Saturday Schools and campus beautifications completed and turned in to the Supervision office no later than 3pm on Wednesday, October 10th.

There will be a Girls Water Polo Presentation/Demonstration on Monday, October 8th at 3pm on the POOL Deck for any girls interested in seeing and finding out what Water Polo is all about! It doesn’t matter if you are an experienced swimmer or someone who hasn’t ever played Water Polo before…come out & see our current Girls Water Polo players amaze and excite you with their amazing water polo skills!

All of the UC and Cal State campus reps will attend along with the Military and Out of State Colleges. This is a great night to talk to the reps, get their email address and make contacts. We also offer break out sessions for NCAA, Financial Aid and SAT vs ACT. This is a great night to gather tons of college information. Some teachers may give you extra credit for attending! Friday Night Live builds partnerships for positive and healthy youth development which engage youth as active leaders and resources in their communities. They strive to raise awareness on the dangers of drinking, tobacco, gambling, and other harms to promote staying above the influence. Meeting will be today in room 205 during lunch. We will be doing an activity and handing out prizes in the end so don’t miss out!

Congratulations to sophomore golfer Lilia Vu for winning the individual title at the Long Beach Wilson Golf Tournament. Lilia shot an amazing 10 under par 64, beating some of the best golfers in Orange County by a margin of 6 shots.

Congratulations to the girls cross country team for their outstanding performance at the Sunset League preview meet. The barons upset Edison and Newport Harbor to finish second overall, finishing 2 seconds behind Marina while running a team time of 94:36. FV was led by Amanda Stark, Stephanie Fedele, Amber Bragdon, Aini Morales, Summer Ordaz, Valerie Stark, and Phong Mai.
The Varsity Boys placed first in the event putting them in an excellent position to repeat as Sunset League Champions Thomas Duckson, Hunter Gulino and Max Chern all placed in the top 5. David Abraham, Galyn Nash, Will Kokal and Alan Loi also competed in the Varsity race. The first Fountain Valley finisher in the JV race was Sam Arciniaga and in the Frosh/Soph race Joseph Martinez.
