Human to Human, a club started this year by Gabby Chambers (’13), came together last weekend to make sandwiches and feed the hungry.
It was the first of many events held for the new club on campus. Their goal was to give as many people who don’t have the means to make their own food a meal for a day.
The get together was held at the house of the club creator and president, Gabby Chambers (’13). Although the event was put together last minute, many members of the club showed up to help out.
The volunteers worked together to make two hundred sandwiches, creating an assembly line of mass production of PB&J’s. Supplies were ample and paid for by donations by club members.
After all of the sandwiches were made, bagged, and ready to go, the hard workers helped Chambers pass out sandwiches at the Civic Center just in time for dinner.
“It was a success! It didn’t take us long and we made about 200 sandwiches and we fed around 100 people so most people were able to get 2 sandwiches each,” said Chambers. The recipients of the sandwiches were appreciative of their kindness and thanked them for the food.
Although Human to Human is a brand new club, many students have stepped up and are ready to help it run quickly and smoothly. October 7th marked a milestone for them: the first of many days spent to ensure that everyone has food on their plate.
“That’s the best part of the whole experience because you can actually see the difference that you made with a simple sandwich,” said Chambers.
