The City of Fountain Valley and the Recreation & Community Services Division kicked off the holiday season by hosting the annual city Tree Lighting Ceremony on December 1st.
After an exciting countdown, Mayor John Collins lit the tree with the help of our very own Santa Claus. Fireworks and holiday tunes created a jovial atmosphere that lasted throughout the night.
Throughout the night, visitors could enjoy the various game booths, holiday crafts, pictures with Mr. and Mrs. Claus, and the free hot cocoa, apple cider, and cookies.
Fountain Valley’s Royal Regiment, Dance Team, and Troubadours all performed throughout the evening. The band’s drum roll initiated the countdown for the tree lighting and the Troubadours sang heartwarming Christmas carols.
Troubadour Jackie Le (13’) thought the event “was a nice way to start off the holidays, and it was fun doing something that involved the community.”
Fountain Valley’s Key Club, CSF, Kiwins, and NHS volunteered throughout the day with set up, clean up, and monitoring the various attractions.
“The event was well-organized and there were plenty of volunteers so we didn’t have that much work and could also enjoy the event,” said NHS President Andrea Tieu (13’).
Merry Barons filled the crowds, noted Patricia Le (13’) who simply came to enjoy the night with friends.
“I saw a lot of familiar faces from our school. The holiday ambiance was a great way to kick off December, and we got free apple cider, hot chocolate, and cookies which is always great,” said Patricia.
Vartan Kazezian also went to enjoy the winter atmosphere and get ready for the holidays.
“The tree lighting was amazing!” said Kazezian.
“Food, fireworks, live performances, and the magnificent tree made it a festive wonderland that brought the community together during the holiday season.”
