On Tuesday, December 4, Fountain Valley Varsity Girls Soccer won its first home game 2-0 against Laguna Hills. The Varsity Barons team started their first preseason game on the right path. The whole team has been working hard to earn a championship title for FVHS. In the first five minutes of the first half, the Barons immediately tested the defensive line of Laguna Hills. The strength and speed of the Barons offense could not be compared to the slow defense of Laguna.
The Girls got their first goal of the season from their attacking defender, Vanessa Kemper (‘14). The goal was made from the right side of the pitch by a left-footed chip over the keeper.
Vanessa Kemper said, “I didn’t even expect my kick to turn into a goal, but I’m really glad I got to start off this years season with the first goal.”
The half ended with the goal made by the Barons, and the second half began on a rough start with some shots taken on goalkeepers Alison Marlow (‘15) and Kaelyn Whitcomb (‘16). Overall Alison Marlow made five saves and Kaelyn Whitcomb made two saves in the entire game.
At the end of the second half, a cross was made into the Laguna box, and in a scramble, Kasey Reeve (‘15) finished the ball in the net on a header.
The final score was 2-0 with the Lady Barons taking the lead and a win against their tough opponents. Girls soccer couldn’t have made a better start to the season, and are hoping their future games to have the same results.
This weekend, our Varsity Girls soccer team will compete in the annual Irvine Team Challenge. The next preseason game for all Girls soccer levels will take place on Tuesday, December 11 at Godinez. Come out and support the Barons Girls soccer team.
