The FVRR had the privilege to perform and at Disney’s California Adventure last Wednesday.
Every year, Fountain Valley music director Gary Wampler sends in an audition tape to Disney to see if the FVRR is eligible to perform on their grounds.
“It’s based on a scale. The room is full of judges who listen to every tape to confirm or deny the applied schools,” explained Mr. Wampler.
Fountain Valley’s former performance area, the Plaza Garden Stage, is being deconstructed, so this year, the FVRR performed in a new setting: California Adventure.
The Fountain Valley Orchestra performed around 1:30 p.m., and the marching band marched on the streets around the California Adventure park.
Each performed an arrangement of musical pieces that captivated the audience, including Christmas-themed songs and Disney music.
Both performances did a wonderful job attracting audience members. David Wood (‘14), a member of the orchestra and the marching band stated, “We never had this many people stop by to watch us.”
“The orchestra was very intense,” explained an audience member who saw both performances, “and the marching band was very spirited!”
FVRR students then spent the day riding the roller coasters and watching fireworks.
“When we weren’t performing, we were free to do whatever we wanted in the park,” said mellophone player Jason Allison (’14). “It was different going to California Adventure this year instead of Disneyland, but I had a lot of fun and really liked it.”
