The Lady Barons faced off against rival Edison Chargers yesterday in a home game. Despite the girls’ effort, the Chargers won 46-58.

By the beginning of the first quarter, the Edison lead had climbed fast over the Barons’.

Fountain Valley’s keep-up was due to many Edison violations and Fountain Valley steals. The girls took advantage of many free throws. And while the Charger offense was prolific, their defense was lackluster. Plentiful rebounds came the Baron’s way to keep the score difference in the single-digit range.

At 3:54 of the third quarter, Fountain Valley’s spirit was rekindled when Kelcie Mayott performed a steal and a lay-up to get the Barons within only two points of tying the game. The girls started chanting their defense cheer. However, Edison’s defense also fortified in response.

Despite the tight score, the game ended with foul calls against Fountain Valley. Edison won in a free throw, making the score 46-58.

The girls will move onto Marina at their school on January 17 and will come back home on Martin Luther King Day (January 21) against Huntington Beach.
