Two FVHS students created a Fountain Valley Compliments page on Facebook on January 6, which has since reached more than 800 likes.
Compliments can be sent in to the page, where the creators make sure they are appropriate before posting them. All the comments that go on the page are anonymous, so everyone can feel comfortable giving and receiving compliments.
The creators of the page, who wish to remain nameless, said, “Originally, we got the idea after seeing other popular anonymous sites such as Formspring and Ask.fm. Our main intention for creating the page was to just bring some positivity into the world. “
Students who have been complimented on Fountain Valley Compliments feel that the goal has been achieved. The page has received almost 2,500 compliments since it was established.
Mimi Giang (’16) said, “I think the page is great! It’s a way for people to say nice things about each other. I was pretty happy when I got some compliments.”
“We never expected it to be this popular,” the creators said. “However, we’re really glad that people, not only from FVHS but other schools in the district as well, have taken such an interest to it.”
When asked why he thought the page became popular so quickly, Brian Wang (’15) said, “Students find this as a very fun way to be kind to each other and how people can put smiles on each other’s faces with a simple post on this page.”
Although Fountain Valley Compliments is fairly new, its creators hope that with enough maintenance, it will become a permanent aspect of Fountain Valley High School.
The creators said, “We really hope that our page will have a lasting influence on Fountain Valley High School … we’re hoping to continue this page until we graduate and then to pass the torch on to a fellow Baron.”
