How to have fun on a three-day weekend

The 500 Days of Summer bench is located in downtown Los Angeles.

February 18th is the last Monday we have off after a series of four out of five Mondays without school. To enjoy this final break before five uninterrupted school weeks, Baron Banner has researched some of the best ways to spend those days off.

Having an entire day off, a license, and a car is a perfect combination for a day in Los Angeles with some friends. You can visit the “Levitated Mass”, a 340 ton megalith at LACMA and take the mandatory pictures with the “Urban Light” lamp posts.

After getting cultured at the museum, you can grab some Sprinkles Ice Cream and eat it at Tom’s Bench from 500 Days of Summer while enjoying some of LA’s finest architecture.

However, not everyone may have a license or a friend who can take them so there are many options in the local area. There is always the ready option of watching a movie at Bella Terra or Metro Pointe, whichever you prefer, and grabbing a bite to eat after.

You can watch Warm Bodies for a good laugh, Silver Linings Playbook for a good cry, or Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters for some good old fashioned violence. At either location you can go to Barnes and Noble and maybe find a book to read during SSR or for a book report.

Another local option is enjoying of the biggest perks of living in Southern California: going to the beach.

The Urban Lights lampposts can be seen in the Los Angeles County Museum of Art.

Temperatures are predicted to be at a sunny 65 degrees, which is good weather to go on a stroll or go to the dog park. Two great food choices there are Jan’s Health Bar and Banzai Bowl for lunch or Sugar Shack and IHOP for breakfast. Enjoy your food on the pier while taking in the nice California breeze.

Some people may prefer to stay in, and you can never go wrong with the right book. Perhaps go to the library at school on Friday, or your local library on your spare time, and choose one of interest to you. A brief but interesting read is The Perks of Being a Wallflower by Stephen Chbosky and, if you’re a fast enough reader, you may even be able to watch the accompanying film in the same day.

Whether or not you’re going miles away or staying at home on the 18th, be sure to enjoy yourselves. It’s a brand new semester and, if you don’t procrastinate, it doesn’t have to be as stressful as the last.
