Last Friday marked the 29th Annual Orange County Career Forum held at Concordia University in Irvine, where students from different high schools were given the opportunity to get an insight on certain careers.
The Constitutional Rights Foundation, Orange County, and the Orange County Department of Education work with volunteer presenters to set up different workshops for high school students. Such workshops included, Automotive Industry, Technology, So You Want to be Famous?, Mock Trial, Freeze, FBI!, and much more.
“The workshops taught about how to get a job and what to do when you get to college,” said Tien Nguyen (’14). “[They] were beneficial because the Teen Survival Guide taught me what not to do in life, and the Business one taught me if you want a successful business, then get into computer programming.”
Andrew Hanna (’14) said, “The presenters taught me that when you do something that you love, the money will just come to you, and it will be enough for the family and yourself.”
Before the end of the forum, students packed into the gym for the keynote address, delivered by the founder of Wahoo’s Fish Taco Wing Lam.
Lam gave an inspiring speech about his struggles and the advantages of not giving up. He encouraged the audience to “try harder when things fall flat.”
“I would come back next year if I still don’t know what to do in my life,” said Dylan Larkin (‘14), “It was really awesome and informative.”
