English students plaster school with QR codes

Mr. Theriault’s English classes printed out QR codes for their blogs and posted them across campus as a promotional tactic last Friday, March 15.

During class time, Theriault allowed his students to walk around campus and tape QR codes to walls, vending machines, windows, and every other possible location.

“I want my students to be able to promote their blogs… so we decided to a little fun activity where we just kind of snuck around the school and posted QR codes everywhere,” Theriault stated.

His sophomore and senior students all enjoyed the unique assignment and the opportunity to get out of the classroom.

“It was cool [and] interesting, since none of the teachers have done it before. [It is also] always nice to get out of class,” said Bryan Le (‘15).

The codes, which were posted all over the school, did not go unnoticed by other students.

“I thought it was an interesting assignment and very involved. I loved how people weren’t in the class [like me] could see the blogs, too!” said Sharon Tran (‘15).

Theriault had assigned a project to his English classes, which was to create and maintain a blog for an entire semester. The purpose of the QR code assignment was to promote the blogs and create an easy way to access them. By scanning a QR code with a phone application, the code will take you to the site without the need of a URL.

Many students have been scanning QR codes they are finding on campus, and are being introduced to different blogs ran by their peers.

” It [QR codes] is a good way to get information out. I found some of [the blogs] really interesting and I’m trying to read them frequently,” said Jennifer Dang (‘15).
