During spring break, softball ended their preseason with a win against Rancho Alamitos with a score of 5-4 and started Sunset League with a tough loss against Huntington Beach.
Unfortunately, the game resulted in a loss of 2-17. The girls played close contests in each inning, but despite their hustle they could not manage to pass the home plate.
The Oilers scored at least 2 runs per inning. Slowly, the Barons regained some strength when captain Khailey Campos (’13) hit a double, scoring a RBI and then stealing third and home on a pass ball, scoring another desperately needed run.
However, Huntington still managed to continue their scoring streak, crushing the lady Barons.
The loss was especially painful, especially because all three pitchers on the team were injured. Senior Madi Perez is out for a remaining two weeks due to a back problem. Alternative, Madi Weathers (’14) could not play because of a right arm/elbow issue, which will also put her out for another two weeks. Lastly, Freshman Megan Craft could not play due to a hip/back problem.
“[The team] is not positive on Megan’s injury because she has not been to the doctor yet, but it should be a long time until she returns,” said Randi Fehser (’14).
Although the three pitchers are injured, fourth string pitcher, Kelli Tatum (’14), as well as fifth string pitcher, Randi Fehser (14′), have been filling in their position. Both were a little rusty after more than a year off, but hopefully in the ongoing games, all pitchers will heal and return back to play.
The next league game for Barons softball is at Newport Harbor against the Sailors.
