Boys and girls swim lost to Los Alamitos on Tuesday, April 9th, but the following Tuesday redeemed themselves when the girls varsity swim defeated the Chargers 86-84 for the first time in 16 years.
“Los Al is really fast and we tried our best to get our best times,” said Josh Bernardin, “But this isn’t the meet we’re really focused on, we’re more focused on finals.”
Los Al continued to dominate the Barons by placing 1st and 2nd in every race overall.
“Their team is a lot better than us because they are more prepared,” said Elizabeth Huang (’15).
Some key swimmers against Los Alamitos were Katelyn Farrow (’14), Sarah Yao (’14), and Dalton Kenefick (’14).
“Our boys varsity 200 free relay went one-two, which has not happened against Los Al since 2007,” said Coach Nichols. “And for the Edison meet, we have not beat them in 16 years until now.”
For the Edison meet, key swimmers were Jaime Dang (’13) Dalton Kenefick (’14), Cory Nguyen (’13), and Sarah Yao (’14). The girls varsity team beat Edison 86-84.
“The girls team stepped up and made it happen,” said Nichols. “Our seniors came through scoring critical points and our underclassmen have begun a legacy they’ll carry on their shoulders for years to come.”
“I, personally, swam pretty well so I was happy with my times,” said Dalton Kenefick (’14). ” For the three relays I was in, the first and last one I got 2nd and the 4×50 I got 1st.”
