FV Theatre competed against schools across California at the Cal State Long Beach Theatre Festival last Friday and Saturday. Theatre came out with three winnings in graphic design and costume design.
Marina Villanueva (’13) received second place in her graphic design of A Doll’s House. Ally Fiallo (’13) got second place in her costume design of Peter Pan, and Nikki Tran (’14) placed third for her costume design of Pygmalian.
“I had a fantastic time,” said Villanueva. “It was my first festival, so I didn’t really know what to expect, but I was generally impressed by some of the other schools.”
There were three rounds for monologues, scenes, and musical scenes. Fourteen FVHS students went on to semi-finals:
Brandon Khong (’13) and Danielle Canas (’13) for Othello.
Sydney Benjamin (’14) for Dog Sees God.
Alex-Quan Pham (’13) for The Late Henry Moss.
Michael Peters (’15) and Domenic DeSantis (’15) for “It’s Just The Gas” from Little Shop of Horrors.

Ally Fiallo (’13) for her Peter Pan costume design.
Nikki Tran (’14) for her Pygmalion costume design.
Ashley Ramos (’15) for her set design of Almost, Maine.
The FVHS Improv team: Jake Wells (’15), Michael Peters (’15), Domenic DeSantis (’15) and Jeremy Flores (’14) made it into semi-finals as well.
Designers went on to win three awards, one of which went to Ally Fiallo (’13), who is the lead costume designer of the upcoming musical production Little Shop of Horrors.
“It’s my senior year and there were so many memories made. I had an opportunity of meeting and observing some really talented people,” Fiallo said, “It was really exciting for me to place in a higher rank this year and plus the rewarding experience. It’s like a cherry on top of a perfect year.”
