American Heart Association hosted a student tennis tournament to help raise funds for their organization on April 20th.
Titled “Ace for Hearts,” the tournaments featured several students, both members of the tennis team and others, who played against one another for the title. It was structured “ladder-style,” meaning that teams played one another a set number of rounds and struggled for the position at the “top of the ladder.”
The entrance fee was $5 and in total the club raised $250 for the American Heart Association. Half of the proceeds went to the winners.
“The best part about it was getting back to playing for fun and for a good cause,” said player Andrea Tieu (‘13), who partnered with Austin Beck (‘13).
“It was a great way to spend a Saturday afternoon, and I hope AHA chooses to hold more fun tournaments like this one in the future,” said Tieu.
In the end, Parker Braverman (‘14) and his partner Katyana Nguyen (‘14) defeated all other contenders and went home with both the title of champion and some cash winnings.
“I had a fun time playing in the tournament,” said Braverman. “I hope to play again next year!”
