The PTSA awards were held in the cafeteria on Wednesday, April 24, where select students were honored for their good citizenship in their classes.
Teachers nominated students for these prestigious awards, praising students for their outward kindness, approachability, optimism, and positive attitude.
According to Mr. Herzfeld, these awards are “different from Coronets because each teacher gets to nominate a student, and it’s less of a competition.”
The show was hosted by senior Tyler Bernardin (‘13), the senior representative for the PTSA. Bernardin volunteered to host because of the value he places on these awards.
“I think it’s better to honor students who don’t have 5.0 GPAs because everyone should be recognized, for different reasons,” said Bernardin.
Many of the nominees felt honored to be recognized at the awards. Allison Barrios (‘13), who was nominated for the Art award by Mr. Eich, said, “I thought I was just loud and annoying, but knowing that he sees some potential in me makes my day.”
Statements such as those are the fundamental goal of the PTSA awards, which have been held annually for the past thirteen years.
“Bringing students and parents joy and recognizing different students from the routine ceremonies makes the occasion special,” says winner Lindsey Roberts (‘14). “It’s a great tradition to have here at FVHS.”
