The FVHS dance team’s spring performance took place last Sunday in the FVHS gym. The performance included a blend of jazz, lyrical, and hip hop dancing.
For the opening number, the entire team joined in for a recap of the homecoming assembly routine.
Then several team members performed contemporary, lyrical, and jazz solos throughout the evening which demonstrated our team’s grace, strength and flexibility. The audience was also treated to a traditional Polynesian dance performed by Sam Asuega (’15).
Fountain Valley’s dance team also consists a strong all-male hip hop group. Their performances were built with musicality and flair.
The dancers were lucky to have three coaches as dedicated as Stacey Conley, Tara Pokorney, and Kelela Batinga. These coaches have taught the students flawless technique and choreography skills.
To round out the evening, guest studios such as Fusion Dance, Fulton Cheer, and Beach Cities also entertained the audience.
Fountain Valley seniors were also recognized and praised. Each senior was introduced by name and their future plans. Most seniors have been on the team for two years if not more.
The show ended with a student choreographed, Grease-themed finale, in which students performed their own group dance choreography to each of the songs.
“It was definitely a bittersweet moment,” Ann Vu (’13) stated, who has been on varsity hip hop for two years. “Especially at the end where everyone came together and I was standing in the middle of the floor, taking it all in one last time.”
