The 27 members of the FVHS Associated Student Body traveled to UC Santa Barbara for the Orange County Leadership Camp from Aug. 14-16.
OCL Camp is an annual three-day event where ASBs from over fifty schools gather to share ideas for the coming school year and learn team-building skills.
Members attended workshops specific to their commission Wednesday.”By having a discussion with representatives from other schools, it was really helpful to hear problems they had come across and new methods they had used,” dance commissioner Janelle Dinsmore (’14) said.
“Since this is my first year on ASB and my first year as an events and dance commissioner, it answered a lot of questions I had about the process of planning a dance.”
Members attended workshops where they learned skills and listened to inspirational speakers such as Tyler Durman and Mike Smith share their stories. They also attended short seminars conducted by their peers, to share ideas and “learn from the pros.”
Assistant Principal of Activities Josh Lamar is excited for this upcoming year. “ASB camp was incredibly valuable this year,” he stated. “With 22 new members and a new adviser, we had a chance to bond with each other, attend workshops, and share ideas with other school leaders.”
ASB students returned on Friday, full of ideas for upcoming activities for the first day of school, the first football game, and the Aloha Dance.
“ASB looks forward to a great year of honoring tradition,” said Lamar. “But we’ve got a few new ideas up our sleeve too.”
