FVHS clubs compete with each other to gain new members during Club Rush, which took place during lunch on Sept. 11-13.
As the temperature begin to slowly drop, clubs started to heat things back up with their constant cheering and advertising. With so many clubs on campus, they all tried many creative ways to get more members.
With booths set up around the bowl, clubs promoted themselves with cheers and flyers. Club members constantly walked around waving their posters in the air and screaming their clubs’ names, hoping to gain the attention of freshmen and other potential members.
“I definitely, definitely scream,” said Victor Nguyen (’16), head of activities for Make-A-Wish. “It gets [people’s] attention and lets them know that ‘Hey we’re a fun club, we’re a great club to join, and we bring lots and lots of fun’.'”
Kiwins and Key Club are two examples of clubs who pulled out all the stops to attract students. Although they have the same origin, they rivaled each other to obtain new members. Members of both clubs were decked out in their respective colors while cheering to those who are in the general vicinity of their booths.
“It looks better to have competition, plus it raises the member count,” stated Kiwin’s president, Manuel Santiago (’15).
Along with Key Club and Kiwin’s, there were many other clubs participating in Club Rush, such as Pencils of Promise, Make-a-Difference, and Thirst Relief International. As students walk around the bowl, they were able to learn more about the many interesting clubs that are on campus, and given the chance to become a member.
“It’s pretty exciting,” said freshman, Andrew Pham. “It’s very different and like, everyone is excited and its just makes you want to join.”
“Kiwins” is actually spelled “KIWIN’S” teehee, all caps and apostrpophe thanks!
