Boys water polo continue their successful season by crushing St. John Bosco at OVHS with a solid score of 19-5.

It was clear from the start that the boys had locked down yet another victory at a home game. By the end of the first half, the Barons left their opponents trailing behind with a score of 10-3; the boys effortlessly kept the lead during the second half and finished strong.

Co-captains Dalton Kenefick (‘14) and Connor C. Reilly (‘14) both scored many points for the team, and goalies Chad Halsted (‘14) and Christian Warloe (‘15) prevented St. John Bosco from scoring more than five points through the entire game.

Co-captain Reilly believes that the team has improved much since last year, stating that they are smarter and work together better. “We’re doing really well, as our record shows,” said Reilly. “And we destroyed Bosco today.”

Ben Schmiesing (‘17) said, “Even though this school wasn’t our toughest opponent, we still played really well.” Schmiesing, one of two freshmen on the varsity team, looks forward to his future on the water polo team.

Freshman Adam Mancini was noted by coach Eric Perales as the unsung hero of the game. Perales stated, “He played good defense and got at least five or six people out of the game.” With hopes of entering League at 18-2, Perales also noted that the team’s overall defense is improving and is very active.

The team’s next home game will be against Marina at Newport Harbor High School, Oct. 9 at 5 p.m.
