Barons are expressing their talents by entering their creative works to the National PTA Reflections contest.
The National PTA Reflections contest is the oldest and largest arts education program and was created in 1969 by Colorado’s PTA President Mary Lou Anderson. The purpose for the contest is to provide opportunities for all students to explore and be involved in the arts.
Students from throughout the country submit their ideas on themes for the contest through the Reflections Theme Search Contest. The 2013-14 theme is Believe, Dream, Inspire and was submitted by Julie Lampert of Waverly Park PTA in East Rockaway, New York. The Reflections contests is held for students from the grades Kindergarten to 12th grade with a PTA/PTSA at their schools.
At FVHS, students are entering the contest to gain recognition for their work. Ciera Keller (‘15) said, “I think it’s a great opportunity to get known for your art work and to get more practice in the competing levels.”
Keller, who made a watercolor painting, hopes that her entry for the contest will send out an important important message about an endangered tiger species.
“[The contest] is a wide swath across the spectrum of possibilities that kids can participate in that they really like,” said Michael Eich, the head of the Visual Arts Department. Eich is having his Art 2 and Art 3 classes do the contest as an assignment.
When asked to give advice to students who want to participate, Eich simply stated,“Just do it.”
The PTSA Reflections entry form will be available from English and art teachers or the front office. The deadline for entering the contest is Tuesday, Oct. 15, 2013, at no later than 3 p.m.
