Students are spending this week signing up for presentations by college admissions officers before the release of the Common Application in October.

UC Riverside and Cal State Long Beach were recently shown in a series of presentations about colleges helping students apply. Colleges are coming throughout the fall semester to the career center. These presentations are open forums between admissions officer and student—questions are answered, misconceptions are cleared up, and the applications process is straightened out.

“I heard UC Riverside was a pretty good school and wanted to learn more about it,” Thomas Huynh (’15) said. “The [admissions officer Elizabeth Tisdale] was really good: I have a lot of new information, learned a lot about UCR, and about college applications and the processes for it.”

Sign-up sheets are available in the Career Center for around 25 different presentations. UCSD has over 40 signatures, and NYU with above 80 students planning to attend.  These events are organized by college career specialist Michaela Wakeman.

“This year we are really lucky because our list is expanding we have UCSD, Brown, NYU, Chapman, USC, Cal State Long Beach, Arizona State; the list goes on and on,” said Wakeman. “So it’s really exciting for our students to have the opportunity to come and listen and talk to the actual admissions officers who will be reading their applications.”
