Hey Barons, planning to dress up for Halloween tomorrow? Listen up – Halloween costumes will be subject to a few limitations. For your safety, supervision staff needs to be able to identify students. Also, we still have to maintain a standard of decency.
Halloween costumes will be limited in the following ways:
No masks
No full-coverage face paint
No dangerous accessories
No skimpy or revealing outfits
Administration reserves the right to restrict costumes based on safety, decency and/or level of distraction. Plan accordingly, scary Barons.

Here are your morning announcements for Monday, October 28th:
The Boys Cross Country team recently finished 5th overall at the Orange County Championships. Robert Osorio was the FASTEST Junior in Orange County with a time of 14:58 for 3 miles. Galyn Nash was the 12th fastest Junior with a time of 15:34, William Hua was the 16th fastest sophomore with a time of 16:14, and Ian Dobrenen was the 8th fastest freshman overall with a time of 16:42. Robert Osorio is currently ranked as the 12th fastest runner in CIF Division 1 and is in position to become the first ever Fountain Valley runner to qualify for the State Championships. The Boy’s will be going for their 3rd consecutive league title on all three levels this weekend at Central Park!
This weekend, Fountain Valley Theatre hit the stage making it to finals in half of all categories at the Mission Viejo Roleabout Festival. Congratulations to Sydney Benjamin for winning a medal for her comedic monologue. The Fountain Valley Cappies team is starting their year off with a Bang. After watching their first team show on Friday night at Fullerton Union High School, Lead critic Nikki Tran and rookie team member Claire Pritchard both had their reviews selected for publication in Orange County newspapers. Way to go Baron Cappies.
Congratulations to our Marching Band for another 1st place performance Saturday picking up 4 more awards while winning the “Best Visual Marching” Award.. FV still holds the highest score in Southern CA when FV brought home 7 awards Winning the entire Tournament last week.. See our Water World show during Pre Game at OCC this Friday and on Saturday at Irvine HS.. FV performs at 8:30pm.

Congrats to the JV football team for their 36-7 win over Newport Harbor yesterday afternoon. The jayvees are 2-1 in league and getting ready for their showdown against Edison next Thursday afternoon at home – come out and join us at 3:00 in the stadium!
On the freshly painted lines of Davidson Field, the Frosh Football team attempted to continue their undefeated Sunset League streak. Things looked promising as the Barons took the opening kickoff back 80 yards for a touchdown, however, after that, the game slowed to a 12 round slug fest between two heavy weight prize fighters. The Barons never gave up and left every ounce of zeal on the field, but during the last drive to win the game the Barons fell short, 21-14. Next week the Barons will be traveling down Magnolia to take on the vile Chargers. Go Barons!!

Congratulations to Kaden Bruner, Noah Hafen and Shane Cupp for their first place wins in their heats. Second place kudos go to Riley Donohoo, Colleen Millican, Eric Tello and Dustin Santana. And congratulations to Sage Oosterhof, Aly Johns, Cairo Ziebarth, Ian Hunter and Kekoa Jensen for their third places finishes. Awesome surfing team!
What an exciting game by our Girls Volleyball team last night. Although they fell short of the victory they fought hard against Los Al. The gym was packed and the Loud Crowd was awesome. Let’s carry our school spirit over to Friday nights football game against Newport Harbor. We need the loud crowd to help our team to victory! Kick Off is at 7:00pm Barons. Congratulations to Varsity Girls Volleyball for beating Edison High School last night! This was FV’s first Girls Volleyball win over Edison in 10 years! Great job ladies!
On a dry cloudless day, a united team stood poised to continue their unbeaten streak on the Dave Fitzpatrick Freshman Field. In the beginning, it appeared it would be a difficult day for the young Barons getting down 0-14 in the first quarter, however, with double zeros on the clock the Barons tied the game by halftime. The Oilers would never again set foot in the Barons end zone while the Baron’s surgical offense put up 30 unanswered points, winning 30-14. Excellent team victory by the Frosh Football Team. Next week your Sunset League leading Barons will travel down south to take on the Sailors of Newport Beach. Go Barons!!!
Baron’s Surf Team hosted Edison Chargers on Thursday morning at our home break. Baron’s started the competition with style but the Chargers came back to take the win. Congratulations Kaden Bruner on your first place finish in your heat. John Hoyt and Delany Millican had third place finishes. Well done Surf Team!

This is a mandatory event for all Varsity only athletes from all sports, both male and female. Please report to the gym @ 6:00 pm along with your coaches. The evening will begin with a keynote speech from Baron Alum Luke Hudson, former pitcher for the Cincinnati Reds and Kansas City Royals. After that, former 10 year NBA veteran Lamond Murray, who played for both the Spurs and Clippers, will speak about opportunities to play sports in college. Additionally, Baron Alum Steve Schultz will be speaking on leadership and character in athletics, as well as Ms. Olaya and Ms. Crawford, who will join us for discussions on sports psychology, wellness and nutrition for athletes. The evening will end with a HUGE raffle (gift cards, hats, spirit wear, etc) and should be complete no later than 8:00 pm, so you don’t want to miss. We will see all Varsity Athletes next monday night!!

Congratulations to the girls volleyball program who swept Marina at all levels! Next match is tonight @ rival Edison High School! Go Lady Barons!
This past weekend, the boys competed in the Clovis Invitational in Fresno. Robert Osorio led the team with a 15:38 5k while William Hua ran well, completing the course as the teams 5th man with a time of 16:43. Freshman Ian Dobrenen also ran well to put himself in position to be the first freshman runner to earn a Varsity letter since 2008. Currently the boys are undefeated in league this year with a 5-0 dual meet record, ranked 4th in Orange County, and 8th in CIF. This Saturday, they will compete for the schools first Orange County title at Irvine Park.

The Orange County ranked lady barons cross country team had a strong showing over the weekend at the Clovis Invitational led by Amber Bragdon’s 18:45 5k time. The entire varsity team performed well and was composed of Amanda Stark, Valerie Stark, Marianna Chavez, and Natalie Grohmann.

Are you an aspiring artist or journalist? The Constitutional Rights Foundation of Orange County holds a courtroom artist and journalism competition through the Mock Trial program. In the past two years, FVHS students have won first and second place in both art and journalism Orange County and participated at the state finals. Be part of an award winning team. Attention all students! This is a very important announcement regarding this week’s testing for all 9th, 10th, and 11th grade students. On Wednesday, October 16th, all freshmen will take the EXPLORE test, all sophomores will take the PLAN test, and all juniors, will take the Preliminary SAT. Our Seniors will report to the Gym for an exciting College and Career Forum with keynote speakers from UCI and Roadtrip Nation.
9th, 10th, and 11th grade students will report to their assigned testing location at 8:00a.m. Seniors will report to the Gym and check in at 8:00 a.m. Students are not required to attend zero period. The test location flyer is available in all English classes and will be posted on the attendance windows. All students will finish school after attending their 3rd period class and will be dismissed at 12:40 p.m.

On a brisk fall afternoon, the Frosh Football team butchered a potential Viking invasion on the David Fitzpatrick Field. The Viking clan came out strong and took the lead into halftime. However, the Barons regrouped at halftime and shattered the Vikings dreams of victory, with the Barons winning 28-19. Special notice should get giving to the great play by Scott Craig, Cade Siegrist, Justin Martinez, Matt Powell, Joey Foster, Conner Vanderveen., Adam Torres, Jacob Garrett, Tyler Lee, Gavin Carter, Kallan Detloff, and Angel Hernandez. Next week come support your 1st place Barons as they take on the Huntington Beach Oilers at home. Go Big Blue!!

Congratulations to Girls Tennis on their victory over Huntington Beach 10 to 8. It was a very close match. The Baron girls fought their hearts out today, way to come back after tough losses to Edison and Los Alamitos! Demi Dang came on strong to win all of her 3 matches. Katie HO and Tia Wheelock won 2 of their singles matches….. Go Barons!
At the crack of dawn on Tuesday FVHS Surf Team had their first competition against Huntington. Barons performed well but Huntington was victorious in the end. Some notable finishes were Sage Oosterhof, Colleen Millican and John Richardson with second place finishes while Eric Tello, Aly Johns and Nathan Davis had 3rd place finishes. Keep up the great surfing team!
Don’t miss the First concert of our award-winning Vocal Music Program. Livin’ the Life is our annual Fall Preview Concert and will be held tomorrow, Thursday night at the Robert Moore Theater at Orange Coast College. The concert starts at 7:00pm and features all of our seven choirs. Tickets are on sale today by Room 307 and are $8 for students….or you can buy them at the door before the concert. Don’t miss great music, from the Beatles to Broadway to Italian Opera Choruses…..there’s something for everyone. This concert will be short…but powerful! Our Baron singers are definitely Livin’ the Life!
Cal St Long Beach and the Career Center will be hosting a Cal St Application Workshop today at 2:00pm in the Computer lab. If you need help or have any questions regarding the Cal State App we will be in the computer lab to help you!
A really BIG thing is happening next Wednesday, October, 16th. It’s College and Career Day! Grades 9, 10 and 11 will participate in school wide testing and seniors will go to the gym for a College and Career Forum. Students are you wondering why you need to take another test? The answer is easy: 9th grade EXPLORE helps you choose careers that match your interests; 10th grade PLAN points out academic strengths and matches careers; 11th grade PSAT qualifies you for scholarships and helps with college and career planning.

Are you an aspiring artist or journalist? The Constitutional Rights Foundation of Orange County holds a courtroom artist and journalism competition through the Mock Trial program. In the past two years, FVHS students have won first and second place in both art and journalism Orange County and participated at the state finals. Be part of an award winning team. Great job, varsity field hockey, for their tie in overtime against last year’s Sunset League Champs, Huntington Beach HS. Good luck Friday against Edison!
JV girls tennis did an outstanding job beating Edison. Holly Lam won all of her doubles matches with Marianne Thio and Keemia Kasravi. Giao Pham and Annie Phan won 2 of the 3 matches. Varsity girls fought very hard but lost 8-10.
Attention all Baron ladies, girls water polo is looking for players! If you are interested in joining the girls water polo team please see Coach Esson on the pool deck on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday afternoons after your 5th or 6th period.
Remember, baseball tryouts continue today and tomorrow on the varsity baseball field at 3:30.
The boys water polo team went 5 and 1 at the America’s Finest tournament this weekend. The boys beat Coronado High School, the best team in San Diego County, for the first time ever. Congratulations, boys and keep up the strong performance!!
Hey Barons! Don’t forget the deadline to submit your Homecoming Video is this Friday, Oct. 4. If you’re asking your date to Homecoming in a creative way, and you get it on film, we will be having the Homecoming Video Contest! The winner will receive a pair of homecoming tickets! All videos must be under ninety seconds long, and submissions must be submitted to the form on the FVHS activities website. The top three videos will be put into a poll to be voted on by students, and the winner will be announced at the Homecoming Assembly.
Senior Favorites voting is due this Friday, Oct. 4. Please vote by visiting the link on the FVHS homepage.
