FVHS already has multiple science classes available, such as physics, biology, and chemistry, but there will be a new physiology class coming to campus for the new school year.
“Physiology is the study of how the body functions. The course includes a detailed study of many human body systems,” said biology teacher Lehua Werdel. “This course is recommended for students interested in a health-related career, especially those students who plan to study medicine, nursing, physical therapy, and athletic training. “
The HBUHSD is getting new textbooks for other physiology classes on other school sites. Because these textbooks will be the most current edition and cost less when ordered in greater quantities, the science department has decided to add a physiology class to FVHS’s campus as well.
Many students are unaware of the addition of a new science class even though it is another non-AP option for juniors and seniors. There are some students that know of the class and are considering taking it.
Melissa Huynh (’15) stated, “Recently I found out that there’s going to be a physiology course next year so now I’m considering taking that because body systems are interesting to me.”
“Physiology is a good class for anyone hoping to go into the medical field. I feel like it gives you the glimpse of what is to be expected, and from the class, you can also tell if the medical field is something you even want to go into or not,” Tiffany Nguyen (’15) said. “If you don’t like the class or if you don’t do too well in it, it allows you to determine that you want to do something else in college before you actually get to college.”
Regardless of how many students sign up for the course, only 37 are allowed in since there will only be one class open. As of now, it is unknown who will teach the course.
