Varsity boys golf prevailed over Huntington Beach at Meadowlark on Wednesday, 193 to 195.
This was the boys’ first league win and sixth overall. Senior Ryan Cross is optimistic about the season.
“It’s our year,” he stated, referring to the boys’ success so far.
The players were nervous because of such a close match and the conditions, but they persisted and were rewarded.
Captain Jordan Meas(’14) said, “Two stroke victory is [a] dangerously close victory but again it only takes one shot to win.”
The boys were able to overcome Huntington with their putting, rather than hitting, said Meas.
Meas shot 35, tying with the top two players from Huntington, and Jeffrey Gathmann(’14) shot 37, allowing the boys to win.
The boys’ next match is on Tuesday against Newport Harbor.
