Teachers and district administrators recently prepared for the upcoming WASC visit with a simulated review of focus groups based on school reports.
The students and teachers in the focus groups were expected to be able to answer questions about what they had learned through the process of the school’s self-study and progress. They answered questions about what FVHS has learned about its students, how the school has maintained its mission statement, and how FVHS plans to move forward in its development.
“The mock WASC will just help us have a little smoother WASC visit,” said Principal Chris Herzfeld. “The WASC visit itself helps us improve our school because, really, the WASC process is a process of reflecting on where [we’ve] been, [and] how [we’re] doing.”
The actual WASC visit next week will be an analysis of how the school has been maintaining its mission statement, which states that learning for every student will be maximized.
“That’s our opportunity to look and say, ‘Well, are we really doing that? Is every student really getting the most out of their education here at Fountain Valley?'” said Herzfeld. “You know, that’s a noble mission to try to maximize learning for every single student, and that’s something we’ll always be striving to improve.”
