Last Tuesday, varsity tennis played against the Marina Vikings, defeating them with a score of 13-5. With only one loss this season, the boys are in good shape for the Sunset League.
All three doubles teams swept the competition without losing a single match. Darrin Nguyen (‘14) and Darren Dinh (‘14) especially delivered for Dinh’s first match of the entire season. As a transfer student, Dinh is unable to play the first month of preseason and the first three games of season. His addition to the team will boost the Barons’ chances for a league championship.
“For doubles line-up, it’s been weak lately. But since I’m in now, me and my partner can carry the team,” said Dinh.
Eric Nguyen (‘16) also won all three of his singles matches, defeating a challenging opponent, Max Cancilla. Nguyen had struggled against the Viking previously but was able to rise victorious in this match. He won with a score of 6-4.
“He [Cancilla] is one of the best in our league, and Eric has lost to him the last ten times they played,” said head coach Harshul Patel. “And today was his victory over him.”
The boys’ next home match will be the big game against Los Alamitos on April 21.
