In July, the girls volleyball program held its annual summer camp and tryouts for incoming freshmen and returning players.
The camp ran from Monday through Thursday for three weeks, giving returning players extra practice time and newcomers the opportunity to try out for the team.
This year has introduced many new players with previous experience that will prove to be beneficial to the teams as the fall season approaches.
“There seems to be many new club players who can offer their different strengths and styles of playing on the court to our returning players,” said returner Michelle Nguyen (’16). “I’m excited to see how everyone will come together as a team and family this season.”
Head coach Adam Cutrell believes in building not only a great team but also a strong family among the girls in order to succeed.
“Every year we come in with a new set of goals, and we want to build on what we did last year with our winning season, but now [we want to] build the culture of just being a family,” said head coach Adam Cutrell. “We’re gonna try and spend just as much time working on volleyball as we are spending time together, and just kind of building relationships with one another.”
“I don’t think you can really, you know, play for a coach, a fellow team mate, or yourself until you figure out what’s important to you and how to talk to others,” continued Cutrell. “So for that reason, we’re wanting to stress working on yourself and just working on volleyball.”
The upcoming season will begin in September and run through November, with games every Tuesday and Thursday.
