Students provide tips to make studying more effective

Studying may not be students’ favorite activity but it is extremely necessary. Here are five tips from FV’s very own students to keep in mind while hitting the books.

1. Stay on task and focus. Try and stay away from the social media until most tasks are completed. Focus is essential to anyone’s studying process and gives the best results in your classes.

Julie Pham (’16) said, “I think being in a quiet area would help more to stay focused, so listening to music or going to a library would be easier to stay focused.”

2. Stay organized. Keep each of your classes’ work separated and safely stored. School supplies should be stored in the same area at home. Use your resources to separate homework, class handouts, and test materials for even more organization.

3. Plan and schedule; don’t procrastinate. Sticking to a consistent schedule helps save time and energy. Space out studying and homework day by day instead of cramming last minute will decrease stress and better grades.

Lizette Nguyen (’15) said, “You need to have like a routine when you study so you can have that to plan early on and so you can like self motivate yourself to study and do your homework.”

4. Work smarter, not harder. This means less procrastination, using all of your productive resources, and taking the courses you feel fit for. Challenge yourself, but give yourself room.

5. Ask for help. If you struggle in a particular class, ask for tutoring or help from the teachers or other students. Learn how to solve your class issues with communicating with others. If you don’t struggle but rather excel in a class, maybe offer your help to other students as well.
