This year, prices for homecoming tickets were sold for $20 more than the prices in which they were sold last year.
Tickets were sold starting at $70 with a Super Baron or ASB card and $75 dollars without. Later, the prices would increase to $90 with a Super Baron or ASB card and $95 without.
“To be honest, I wasn’t really a fan of the $20 increase, because I went to homecoming last year and the venue was nice, but when I first saw where the venue was this year, I was wondering why we have to spend $70 or more for an empty
hangar,” said Kelly Chin (‘15). “I don’t know if they are using that money for the rides or decorations but last year’s venue does look better than now.”
Last year, homecoming tickets were sold for $50 with a Super Baron card and $55 without, on the first day of sales. Gradually the price increased by increments of $10, until the last day when they were sold for $70 with a Super Baron or ASB card and $75 without. “I think that the [price] increase is a bit of a punch to the face for students like me. Having the original price being $75 without Super Baron was already tough on me,”Anthony Pham (‘15) said.
The homecoming dance will take place at Irvine Great Park, Hangar 244, which according to ASB Dance Commissioners Carly Perri (’17) and Katie Garcia (’15) is a more expensive venue than last year.
Perri and Garcia stated that the ticket prices increased due to the greater requirements for the dance.
Although there were several available activities at last year’s venue, the ESPN Zone, this year has a different approach with new activities due to the changed theme.
Because the the theme of the dance is “Bright Lights, Carnival Lights,” there will be main attractions, including a ferris wheel, game booths, food carts, a photo booth, and a dance floor.
There will also be no additional charges once you are inside the fair, said Perri and Garcia.
The only additional charges would be before the dance itself to go on the carousel or the hot air balloon rides, since they are not included in the homecoming dance itself.
“Personally, this is my first time going to homecoming so I didn’t know about the pricing difference. But knowing that the price went up by $10 is not a something you’d want to hear,” Tina Tran(‘15) “However, the cost is reasonable since the place is more expensive, or so I’ve heard. You get what you pay for; it’s worth paying a bit more for unforgettable memories.”
