This year, Choir Director Kevin Tison, with the help of hundreds of choir students, has created an FV alumni choir. The choir practices once a month in preparation for the Sounds of the Season: Past and Present concert at Segerstrom Concert Hall. In addition to participating in the winter concert, the alumni choir will have the opportunity to accompany Concert Choir on their trip to New York in April.
“I am very nostalgic and am so excited to be back around some of these incredible young men and women that I used to see everyday, making beautiful music,” Tison said.
Tison will be directing the group, with the help of Daniel Querry, an ’05 Troubadour, and accompanist Tanner Mathews.
Many alumni are as excited and nostalgic as Tison is to be back in the FVHS vocal music program.
“The alumni choir is a great opportunity for us to reconnect with people we haven’t seen in a while,” George Tran, an FVHS vocal music alumnus, said.
Tison is eager to be back working with the talented singers, as are the alumni.
Kelly Self, an FVHS choir alumnus, said, “Mr. Tison was a huge influence on my choice to have a career in music. So it is nice to come back and sing with him again.”
Tison started the group as a benchmark for his tenth year anniversary of teaching at FVHS. Tison wanted to bring back his old students, most of whom were from Troubadours and Concert Choir, to commemorate the milestone. Throughout his ten years, he has touched many of his students and helped them grow.
“Throughout all the different choirs I have been in, Mr. Tison is the best director I have had and he has made a huge impact on my life and my music,” said Ruth Kim, an alumnus of the vocal music program.
The Alumni Choir will have a big part in the Vocal Music Program this year and will, Tison hopes, bring more alumni back to the choir program.
