Fountain Valley High School’s Mock Trial team competed against over a dozen other teams in the Orange County area on Saturday Nov. 1, at Junipero Serra High School, winning second place.
Fountain Valley’s Mock Trial team participated in this pre-competition event to get a feel for what the actual competitions would be like. The team has been working hard for weeks to prepare, and were excited to start competing. More than 16 teams in the Orange County area participated in the event hosted by JSerra. Each team competed against two other schools; one round for the defense team, the other for prosecution.
Going up first against Mater Dei, the FV defense team battled hard to prove their case and deliver a solid performance. Their efforts were rewarded when they managed to win by a few points against Mater Dei.
“I was exhilarated and generally super stoked because it was pretty unexpected,” said Gina Le (’16), a defense attorney.
The team won both their prosecution round as well, receiving second place overall. After getting a taste for what the real competitions will be like, the team feels ready to go.
“I honestly think we are so much more solid than we ever were before,” said prosecution captain Jar-Yee Liu (’15). “My witnesses always surprise me, my attorneys always surprise me.”
After making top 16 last year, the team is even more excited for this year.
“I’m super excited because we’ve been preparing and practicing for months and we have a really solid and talented team, and I can’t wait to see how far we go this year,” said Le.
