Members from Senior Commission sold gratitude grams to students during November to thank friends and teachers for their continual hard work and dedication towards the school.
With Thanksgiving coming up, Senior Commission wanted teachers and the students to gain recognition of their hard work. Selling Gratitude Grams showed the display of gratitude on campus through the delivery of an appreciation card along with a handmade flower pen by Senior Commission.
The idea originated from a member of Senior Commission, Miray Elkedwani (‘15), and the plan further stemmed into action with the help of the co-president, Monica Awad (’15).
“We thought, ‘What a great way to say we are thankful.’ It made me feel awesome to be a part of a school where students care so much about their teachers.” said Monica Awad (‘15).
The gratitude grams were originally for the appreciation of the teachers only. However, Senior Commission decided that with the Thanksgiving Holiday, they would open up the recipients of the grams to the entire school.
As the school announced the start of the gratitude gram sale, Senior Commission received surprising results of the event turnout.
“This is the first time Senior Commission has done something like this. To our surprise it was successful for a first-time event! We sold a good amount and we are proud of how it turned out!” said Awad (‘15).
Students were interested in this new sale to show appreciation to their teachers. There are 2 types of grams: one for teachers, and one for students. Along with the card, Senior Commission decided to give handmade flower pens, because the pens represented the growing dedication and commitment the teachers brought to FVHS. The flower pens were designed and crafted by the members of Senior Commission to create a sentimental and home-based feeling.
Senior Commission was expecting lower sale quantities because it was an event that never took place on campus. But, the sales surpassed their initial goal. Therefore, it was a success in representing the appreciation of the school and the funding of FVHS’s Senior Commission.
“We sold a good amount and we are proud of how it turned out!” said Awad (‘15).
The Gratitude Grams were delivered on November 21, the last day of school before the start of Thanksgiving Break to spread thankfulness just in time for the holidays.
