From December 9 to 12, a “Mario Kart” tournament was held by Fountain Valley High School’s Virtual Enterprise class in room 230.
About two months, the class held a “Super Smash Brothers Melee” tournament, attracting many students to compete. Compared to the “Super Smash Brothers”, the turnout met extremely high expectations, being especially entertaining and successful.
Virtual Enterprise thought “Mario Kart Double Dash” seemed as a good choice for their second tournament of the year because of its well known popularity. Students played the video game throughout the week, as winning first or second place would get them to the next round.
“There are a set numbers of rounds a player must win in order to get first place. The number of rounds is determined by how many people sign up,” said Nick Ryan (’15), host of the “Mario Kart” tournament.
However, there could only be one winner after all of the first and second place players who returned went against each other. Out of many of the hardworking participants, Louis Caprini (’18) was the winner of the Mario Kart video game competition, receiving a $25 gift card.
Even if there was only one winner, students still enjoyed being able to play a video game at school against peers with the same interest.
“It was a great experience to play ‘Mario Kart’ on a wide projector screen instead of my 3DS,” said Vinh Nguyen (’17). “Even though I got second place, I still think of it as a big accomplishment.”
Virtual Enterprise has been greatly advertised ever since they have started organizing these video game contests. They hope to launch as many tournaments as possible, however, there is a lot of work and time that comes with it.
“A lot of fundraising is necessary for the massive amount of supplies we need. So the fundraising team led by the glorious, Mahdie Diab will be working hard to fundraise as often as possible,” said Ryan. “I personally will host video game tournaments once every few months.”
Virtual Enterprise plans on hosting “League of Legends” or “Super Smash Brothers Brawl” for their next video game tournament. The class has grown a lot closer as a group and they are enthusiastic to hold more video game tournaments for the students at FVHS.
