Happy New Year Barons!
Here are the last announcements of the 1st semester…
Attention Students!! All Health textbooks must be returned during the finals. Mr. Felix’s world Geography textbooks must also be returned during the final. All Econ, and Gov’t textbooks must be returned during, or before the finals. Seniors that “forget” to return their 1st semester book will not be given a book for their 2nd semester class until all classes have checked out a book. In order to make sure we have enough books for all Barons they all have to be returned before the end of finals. Failure to return books on time may be subject to late fees. Please be caring Barons and return the books you will no longer need 2nd semester. Thank-You!!!
Our Varsity wrestlers competed with over 700 wrestlers from multiple states this past weekend. For the first time in FV History 2 Baron Wrestlers made it to the finals of our prestigious Five Counties Invitational Tournament. Blake Vasquez and Andrew Morgan both took 2nd place to lead the team to a 5th place finish, our best in over 30 years! Additionally, Stone Escobedo took 7th and Karson Ayres placed 5th. Thanks to all our Baron Staff and students who helped host the 2 day long tournament. On Monday night, Karson, Blake, and Andrew competed in the Orange County All Star Match. Blake and Drew defeated their opponents on their way to becoming the #1 wrestlers in the county! The Wrestling Team is currently ranked 2nd in Orange County and undefeated in Sunset League.

Our game of the week is this Friday @ 7:00pm, don’t forget to come out in your best beach gear this Friday night as our FV basketball boys take on the Oilers on our home court!
Also, come support Girls Basketball at the Fireman vs. Policeman Basketball Game this Saturday, doors open at 4:00 and tip-off is at 6:00!

The FVHS Girls Basketball program is hosting the Fountain Valley Fire Department vs. Fountain Valley Police Department Basketball Classic this Saturday, January 24in the FVHS gym, tip-off is at 6:00 p.m. Vendors from around the community will be on hand starting at 4:00 p.m., as well as a silent auction with some great items. Pre-sale tickets can be purchased from a FVHS Girls Basketball player – students are $3; adults are $5. Tickets will also be available at the door – students $4; adults $6. Proceeds from this event will benefit the FVHS Girls Basketball program.
Auditions and interviews for the spring musical, Pippin’s cast and crew will be held January 27th and 28th at 6:00pm in room 309. Crew interviews will be held onJanuary 29th beginning at 3:00 in room 309. Please see Mr. Zick for more audition material and more information.

Congratulations to the Dance Team for an awesome start at their first competition of the season! The Co-ed hip hop team, small and large hip hop teams all received 1st place!! Cheyanne Piepmeyer also placed 1st in her solo category. Great job dancers!!
Congratulations to the Cast and Crew of The Hothouse. They received honors at the California Educational Theatre Association High School Theatre Festival.

Attention Barons: ALL Homework Club sessions are canceled this week due to “finals”. Study on!!
Attention Students, this is an important announcement from your Guidance Specialists.
If you need a schedule change, please see your Guidance Specialist after finals this week, Wednesday, Thursday or Friday. All change requests must be made in person and requested no later than this Friday, January 23. Many schedules had to be changed because of teacher reassignments. Please understand these changes were unavoidable. Tuesday, January 27th, look for your first period class posted on the attendance windows. You will receive your updated schedule in your first period class.
Attention Seniors, the Frank M. Doyle scholarship is now accepting applications. If you are interested in applying, please go to their web site Frank M Doyle.com and fill out an application. The deadline to apply is March 1st.
Juniors, last chance to get a practice SAT or ACT this spring. Practice tests will be on Jan 31st and March 28th from 9am to 1pm in the Media Center. Register atrevolutionprep.com. $25 for one test $40 for both. Sophomores, start preparing now with a practice ACT, this exam is very similar to the new version of the SAT.

It’s so easy to make a great impact in this cause; all you need to do is find office and school supplies around your house to donate, and drop them off in your English classes until January 20th. The holiday season might be over…but that doesn’t mean the generosity should stop!

Welcome Wrestlers to Fountain Valley High School!
The Frosh Boys Basketball team defeated Edison by 13 points on Wednesday, and Los Alamitos by 18 points, yesterday. Offensively the Barons were led by Cameron Mansouri’s 16 points vs Edison. Ken Sakata was 6 for 6 at the free throw line in the fourth quarter vs Los Al. Making strong contributions on the defensive end were Steven Amezca, Dylan Sorce and Nima Kalhor. Pulling down key boards were Kevin Nguyen and Bryant Ly. The Barons improve to 19-3 and 3-0 in league play. Nice job Frosh Boys!
Attention Boys JV and Frosh/Soph soccer. Due to the reverse modified day you must go to your 5th period class and be excused at 1:00 for your bus today. Good luck and beat Los Al.

Congratulations to the Varsity Wrestling Team for Placing 1st at the So Cal Wrestling Challenge held at Tustin High School this past weekend. The 6 placers include: Karson Ayres (champion), Blake Vasquez (2nd), Andrew Morgan (Champion), Stone Escobedo (2nd), Ben Madrid (2nd), and David Galdamez (8th). This placing pushes the Barons back to 3rd in Orange County. Last night our wrestlers won at Freshmen, JV, and Varsity in Sunset League duals. The Varsity crushed Marina 54-15. Congratulations and good luck this weekend at our Five Counties Tournament!
Girls JV and Varsity both thumped Edison to stay in first place in league. Frosh lost by 2 in overtime. It was the first Varsity victory over Edison the last 20 years. The Frosh and JV travel to Los Al on Thursday at 3pm and 6pm, while the Varsity play at Los Alamitos, Friday at 6pm. Go Barons!
Swim team meeting tomorrow Thursday Jan. 15th, during lunch on deck. All athletes need to check in to be enrolled in swim.

Do you have a parking permit in the Senior lot? Part of the senior lot will be unavailable to students this Friday due to the 5 Counties Wrestling Tournament. If you have a senior permit you may park in the church parking lot this Friday only. Only students with a parking permit for the senior lot or the church lot will be allowed to park in the church parking lot this Friday. You may want to get a ride to school that day. Parking will be very limited. Please come to Supervision if you have any questions.

CLUB ANNOUNCEMENTS:
Congratulations to Mrs. Lee and Mr. Tyson for coming in first and second place in collecting the most pop tabs for the Ronald McDonald House Club’s Pop Tab Drive. School-wide, FVHS collected approximately 63,350 pop tabs, which is 50 pounds total, and will equal about $333 for the Orange County Ronald McDonald House. Great job Barons!!

For the first time in 20 years, Baron Basketball is welcoming home the 1994 and 1995 Back to Back Sunset League Championship teams. Come to the home Boys’ Basketball game this Friday as former head coach, FV Math teacher Mr. Billingsley, Hall of Famer, Brandon Leimbach, and the rest of the back to back champions are honored at Half Time of the game on this 20 year anniversary.
Congratulations to the FVHS Girls Varsity Soccer team for defeating Garden Grove HS with a score of 5 goals to 1. Goals were scored by Jackie Garrett, Sandy Hawryla, Kylie Wilson, Karley Duda and Leigha Williams. The junior varsity team also won their match with a decisive victory of 4 goals to 1. Great job girls! League play begins this Thursday at Marina. GO BARONS!
Fountain Valley Girls Basketball completed another program sweep on Monday against La Habra. Frosh/Soph won on a shot in the final seconds of the game. JV dominated in their victory and Varsity won moving to 13-3 on the season. League play starts on Thursday at Marina. Go Barons!
