FVHS Troubadours left for Catalina Island after finals on Friday, January 23. The advanced choir spent over 13 hours practicing new music and preparing festival and competition music for the spring. Despite the fact that the long hours caused some to begin to lose their voices, many choir members felt that it was a fun way to practice.
“Spending time with a bunch of amazing people and making music with them was definitely my favorite part of retreat,” said Zury Ramirez (’15), a member of Troubadours.
While in Catalina, the choirs performed for the Avalon Community Church, their host for the weekend, entered a homemade pizza making competition, and participated in a Survivor-meets-Fear-Factor event on the beach.
“I put the kids through a grueling, physical competition that is a blast! Probably the most exercise some of them get all year!” said Kevin Tison, FVHS Choir director.
The weekend was filled with hard work, fun activities, and a chance to grow closer to the other members of the choir. The Troubadour winter retreat is a tradition that is cherished by those who attend.
“It’s a fun, and very rewarding retreat for us. I hear that one of the best parts of being a Troubadour is getting to be on Winter Retreat!” Tison stated.
