After blowing out the Marina Vikings, who are fifth in league, with an 18-point lead in the first half, the Barons Girl Basketball team kept the lead and finished with a 59-48 win.
A win on Tuesday against Newport Harbor helped the Lady Barons get back on track after a two game loss. They continued to pick up the momentum, playing with much better teamwork.
“I think we did much better today than the other nights,” said Coach Cory Clarke. “We played some defense, got some stops, got some rebounds.”
During the first quarter, Michelle Wu (’15), wing, scored eight points, six of which came from crucial 3-pointers. In the second quarter defense was airtight, only allowing Marina to score three points. Ashley Masuda (’15) blocked two shots during the first half, ending the half at 34-16.
“I think almost everyone, if not everyone got to score,” said Masuda.
Anna Krause (’17) stepped up in the second half, scoring 10 of her overall 15 points. Krause, Wu and Ari Jacobsen (’15) all made three 3-pointers each. The game ended in a blowout of 59-48.
“We ran the ball pretty well and made our shots,” said Wu.
The Lady Barons are now tied for second in league with Edison after the win against Marina. The next game will be a battle for second place, as they play against the Chargers at their home.
“Four to two, tied for second; I think we can break that tie on Tuesday” said Clarke.
