This past Friday, the Friday Night Live club put on their annual talent show where Thao Bui (’15) shocked the crowd and judges with her impressive rendition “Almost is Never Enough” by Ariana Grande.
“I didn’t expect to win at all because my performance was pretty simple,” Bui said.
This year is Bui’s first and last year here at Fountain Valley High School so she decided to join the talent show in order to show everyone her talent as a singer and, more importantly, to have fun. She chose to sing for her act because she is an big fan of singing and has been doing it ever since she was child.
“You only have four years of high school and it’s gonna fly by so fast you won’t even notice, you want to create as many memories as you can,” said Bui. “So do something fun, get involved so you will have something to remember and be proud of later on!”
Since the song she chose to do was rather challenging, she prepared for the talent show by rehearsing often at home. She sang with a backing track at the show, which allowed her voice to be the star factor of her performance.
Bui was thankful that she won the first prize at the show but, for her, the best part about winning is the fact that people recognized her ability to sing. She also enjoyed it when people approached her and told her that they wanted her to win because she deserved it.
“I’m really thankful for everybody that cheered for me and supported me and my performance,” said Bui. “I know a lot of people that have a hidden talent but they don’t show it so I want to tell them that its fun to show people your talent.”
