On Saturday April 18, Fountain Valley’s Make-a-Wish club participated at Walk for Wishes fundraiser at the OC Greatpark in Irvine, California.
The club’s hoped to raise $500 and to get 20 members to attend. They exceeded those numbers as they raised $900 and got over twenty members to come.
“With the $900 that was raised by the FV Make-A-Wish club, we’re that much closer to granting another wish and making a child’s day that much brighter,” commented Cody Do (‘18), club member.
During Walk for Wishes, the club walked over a mile. They chanted Fountain Valley chants, and were prideful of their school and club. Following the walk, FVHS MAW cheered on other walkers as they ended their race. Afterwards, they explored many food booths featuring California Pizza Kitchen, Chick-Fil-A, and more. Then the club was treated to Farrell’s ice cream, courtesy of Make-a-Wish Foundation. Last, the club bonded over games involving oranges, and played Truth-or-Dare. During this event, club members had the chance to bond with their board members and other club members, and celebrate their Make-A-Wish pride. They also had a chance to meet Wish kids, and learn their stories.
In order to go to the event, club members had to donate a minimum of $25. With the donation of $25, a free T-Shirt was given out along with being able to walk in the event and experience the festivities along with it. Many club members exceeded the minimum donation, thus raising more than their original goal. The chapter raised $200,000, enough to grant 40 wishes. The wishes would go to children in Orange County with a life threatening medical condition.
“Yeah of course I had a really great time [at Walk for Wishes]! It was a really great experience since it was my first time ever participating. We got to show a lot of spirit, have a lot of fun, bond with the other members and help support a great cause in the process,” said Taylor Nguyen (‘18) a club member.
“Walk-for-Wishes is always an amazing event every year. Being recognized by other clubs for the dedication that FV Make-A-Wish members put into our cause made me realize what an impact that our club has on the community. Make-A-Wish has always been an organization that has been close to my heart,” commented Evelyn Hoang (‘17), board member.
