From September 9 to 11, FVHS students toured the bowl during lunch in search of clubs that best matched their interests and hobbies. While some students thought Club Rush was not actually that effective, multiple clubs recruited many members through the event.
Freshman Amanda Hay said, “At first I thought it was overwhelming because there were so many clubs and I was interested in a lot. Once I kind of explored, I really enjoyed it.”
Hay attended club meetings for KIWIN’S, Leo Club, Make-A-Wish, French Club, and UNICEF every day of the week after Club Rush. Hay believed that Club Rush was a good way to find out information about each club.
“…I think it’s very effective. I didn’t know anything about the clubs, and then it introduced me to the clubs, and I got to find out which ones I was interested in. I think other students got to as well.”
On the other hand, Riham Boubes (’16), didn’t share Hay’s eagerness. She thought that Club Rush was inconvenient for the students who weren’t interested in joining.
“It’s a good way where people can go and meet new people and interact, but at the same time, there are about the rest of the students who don’t want to join club rush.”
Key Club President Kelton Do (’16), felt that the event had improved over the past few years.
“Club Rush this year was really great compared to the other years. There were a lot more freshmen and underclassmen that signed up for clubs this year.”
However, he believes that it could be more effective if the school publicized the event earlier, giving clubs and students time to prepare.
“It’s pretty hard to get the word out in such a short amount of time.”
Key Club had 350-400 students come to the first meeting, Make-a-Wish had over 200, and KIWIN’S had over 230, according to the clubs’ presidents. Although Club Rush might not be for everyone, it has proven to be an efficient way for students to get involved at FVHS.
