On Saturday night, many students seemed to find that the venue change for homecoming exceeded expectations and received an overall positive view.
The venue, which was previously supposed to be held at AV Irvine, was changed to the Discovery Science Center due to the previous venue being unable to make the date to receive a permit for the dance. With the venue for this year’s homecoming experiencing a change so close to the actual date, many students had expressed different concerns and views. A fair amount of students had been leaning towards attending the event because of the venue, and some were disappointed to find that it had been changed so suddenly and prices remained the same.
“It feels much better now that I’m actually here… I thought it was going to be some kid place, because that’s what I heard,” Ethan Nguyen (’16) said. “But it looks amazing.”
To the pleasant surprise of many students, the recently renovated Science Center exceeded and met many expectations. The venue offered a vast array of areas to explore and exhibits to go through during the night, ranging from simulated earthquake experiences to irregular pumpkin patches. Games were set up all along the second floor, complete with a Dance Dance Revolution machine for attendees to enjoy. Time capsules were provided for students to commemorate the night and and leave behind messages for their graduating class.
“It’s really amazing and it looks awesome,” Brigitte Doan (’18) said. “I didn’t know what to expect tonight and it’s all so cool.”
Despite concerns and uncertain thoughts toward how the homecoming venue was going to go, it seemed the overall response was positive, and a vast majority of the students were pleased with the new venue.
“I knew it was going to be lit tonight, and it is,” Thuy-vi Le (’17) said. “It is so lit.”
